Summary
[edit]DescriptionVictoria Cross Akroydon (25).JPG |
Victoria Cross monument at Akroydon, Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. It was designed by architect William Swinden Barber for the founder of Akroydon, Edward Akroyd, and completed in 1875. This is a Grade II listed monument, and is under the care of the local Council. However its World War I memorial plaque has been lost during the 21st century. There are two footballs caught in the pinnacles, and one of the footballs has been there for two decades. Plants are growing on the monument. A member of the public climbed the now-delicate structure and placed a scarf over the face of the marble statue; the scarf has not been removed. |
