Summary
[edit]DescriptionViburnum beetle larvae - geograph.org.uk - 1363569.jpg |
English: Viburnum beetle larvae on Viburnum lantana (Wayfaring tree in my garden. Also causing severe damage on Guelder rose (Viburnus opulus) in a neighbour's garden. The beetle a chrysomelid, Pyrrhalta viburni is a native to Europe and has become a more serious pest in the south in the last 10 years, and a serious invasive pest in N. America [our pay-back for the grey squirrel?]. According to the National Biodiversity Network (http://www.nbn.org.uk/) there is only one record for Scotland, from Edinburgh pre-1890, but their information is woefully incomplete. |
