1019 Die Burg auf dem Ehrenbreitstein wird erstmals erwähnt. Sie soll von einem Ehrenwert oder Ehrenbrecht aus dem konradischem Haus errichtet worden sein. 1160 Ausbau der Anlage durch Erzbischof Hillin von Fallemanien. Südlich der Burg entstand Burg Helfenstein. Es war der Sitz der Herren von Helfenstein. Der Name der Burg ist jetzt 'Hermannstein' um 1500 Die Burg wird durch Kurfürst Richard von Greiffenklau zu Vollrads zur Festung ausgebaut. 1799 Nach einjähriger Belagerung durch die Franzosen wird die Festung kampflos übergeben und anschliessend durch die Franzosen gesprengt. Das darunter liegende Schloss Philippsburg wurde so stark beschädigt, dass es abgerissen werden musste. ab 1817 Unter Einbeziehung der zerstörten kurtierischen Festung auf dem Ehrenbreitstein errichten die Militäringenieure unter Befehl des Generalinspekteurs der preußischen Festungen Gustav von Rauch und des Inspekteurs der rheinischen Festungen Preußens Ernst Ludwig von Aster eine weitläufige Feste. Veste Ehrenbreitstein 1948 Die Festung geht in den Besitz des Landes Rheinland-Pfalz über. 1984 Der französische Staatspräsident Francois Mitterand übergibt der Festung als Dauerleihgabe die durch die französischen Truppen 1799 gestohlene Prunkkanone Greif
1019 The castle on the Ehrenbreitstein first mentioned. It could been built by Ehrenwert or Ehrenbrechte from konradi familie. 1160 expansion of the facility by the of Archbishop Hillin von Fallemanien. South of the castle was built castle Helfenstein. It was the seat of the Lords of Helfenstein. The name of the castle is now 'Hermannstein' The castle was built around 1500 by Elector Richard of Greiffenklau Vollrads to the fortress. 1799 After a year's siege by the french troops , the fortress surrendered without a fight and then was blown up by the french troops. The underlying Castle Philippsburg was so badly damaged that it had to be demolished.
1948 The castle is the property of the state of Rheinland-Pfalz. In 1984 The frech president Francois Mitterand gave the pomp gun 'Greif', stolen by french troops in 1799, back to the fortress as an permanent loan. Johannes Heribert Pohl |
