English: Vegetation at Yorktown National Cemetery |

Description |
English: Ivy grows between boxwood shrubs. Through an opening, a red cedar stands in an area of turf, and the lodge and flagpole are farther in the background. Historic photographs and maps from the 1870s through the 1930s show that vegetation matured into a diverse collection of evergreen and deciduous trees and shrubs, set along the walkways and scattered around the lawns in the grave areas. Although the character, variety, and density of plantings decreased steadily in the 1960s and 1970s, evergreen trees and shrubs like boxwood and cedars are still part of the landscape.
