| Description |
English: The biggest and most complicated 1/100th build yet - the mighty Tupolev Tu-114. This was the World's fastest and largest turboprop airliner and took to the skies in 1958. It was faster than the first jet airliners and stunned the Americans when Khrushchev used it to visit New York for the first time in 1959.
The kit, made in the GDR by VEB Plasticart in 1960, as bought was 7cm too short against the drawing, which meant inserting 3.5cm behind the wing and 2.5cm ahead of it. This was undoubtedly the most difficult airliner kit build I have ever undertaken and has taken the best part of three months on and off to reach this stage. By I'm rather pleased with it. It is such a beast though, that finding somewhere to display it might be a problem! |
