Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Pedestal vase of the neo-hittite kingdoms:

Basalt. Origin: perhaps northern Syria. Around 800-750 BC. London, British Museum, 1888, 0801.1. Exhibition at the Louvre Museum in 2019 for the exhibition "Forgotten Kingdoms".

Legend in the exhibition "Forgotten Kingdoms": "This basalt pedestal vase, engraved with an inscription in louvite hieroglyphics, was discovered in southern Iraq in the 1880s. It may come from Babylon or Sippar, but was certainly made in northern Syria. According to the dedication, the bowl was carved in honor of the god of the storm by a character whose name has not been preserved. The expression "God of the storm of heaven" is another name of the god of the storm of Aleppo. The bowl could be specifically carved for the temple of the storm god of Aleppo."
Français : Vase à piédestal des royaumes néo-hittites.

Basalte. Provenance : peut-être la Syrie du Nord. Vers 800-750 avant J.-C. Londres, British Museum, 1888, 0801.1.
