Fra Trygve B. Gjervans (1918 - 2004) samling.

Gjervan var vernepliktig og tjenestegjorde ved Infanteriregiment 12 som holdt nøytralitetsvakt ved grensen til Sovjetunionen og Finland i Finnmark i 1940. Da tyskerne invaderte Norge 9. april ble IR 12 sendt sørover, og under general Carl Gustav Fleischer (1883 - 1942) ble de satt inn i det norske motangrepet ved Gratangen nær Narvik, hvor IR 12 led store tap.

Fotograf er ifølge Gjervans notater hovedsakelig Kåre Hernes.

På grunn av de terrengmessige forhold måtte en god del av varetransporten til utpostene gå med rein og pulk. Det var meget ettertraktet å få være med på disse turer. Hentingen skjedde på bataljonens hovedlager i Bjørnevatn og på returen ble Skoltefoss og Skafferhullet besøkt og varer levert.
