Description

Het kabinet heeft vandaag besloten gehoor te geven aan het verzoek van de Verenigde Naties om een bijdrage te leveren aan de vredesmissie in Mali. De vredesmissie dient volgens minister-president Rutte een direct Europees en Nederlands veiligheidsbelang. ‘Het noorden van Mali dreigt een vrijplaats te worden voor het opleiden van terroristen en het voorbereiden en uitvoeren van terroristische aanslagen’, aldus Rutte na afloop van de ministerraad. Nederland voelt zich verantwoordelijk om bij te dragen aan deze VN-missie met een breed draagvlak. Naast Nederland leveren landen van over de hele wereld een bijdrage, onder andere Frankrijk, Duitsland, het Verenigd Koninkrijk, China, de Verenigde Staten en diverse Afrikaanse landen.
