[edit]DescriptionVEB Brauerei und Malzfabrik Sangerhausen (2948871407).jpg |
Founded in 1868 and still going strong despite the new economy. Amazing, really. See the history here... www.mammut-bier.de/30.0.html The Mammoth connection - reminiscent of the Hoveringham Gravel company in Nottinghamshire- evokes a Mammoth skeleton which is in Sangerhausen's Spengler Museum, adjacent to the railway station there. Bones were found in a pit in Edersleben nearby in 1930 and were researched by local historian Spengler www.harz-saale.de/Impressionen/Museen/Spengler-Museum/spe... Further bones were dug up in 1933 and it was only in DDR times in 1952 that the whole skeleton of a 35-40 year old Mammoth were put together fully. Unique in Germany, and .....I never saw it. Well, it survived 40,000 years so I guess it will still be there when I visit again. A list of German breweries and their beermats can be found on this list www.bierdeckelsammler.net/deu_brauerei_show_612.htm The site also covers the whole world. |
