Description
English: A wall painting in 2008 in a (deserted at the time according to the photographer, see talk page) military base in Iraq near the border to Iran. The painting is likely the emblem of the military border protection unit which was stationed there. The lowermost writing (curved) means "6th Border Brigade", the writing above it in the scroll means "Iraq's Borders". The three words on top below the Iraqi flag symbol mean "Alertness (or: Vigilance), Self-sacrifice, Steadfastness", probably the virtues which were the military motto of the unit. The painting is with great likelihood from the time before the USA invaded Iraq in 2003, as the flag symbol on top is the flag which was used under Saddam Hussein. The word "probable" is in the image name because there is no official confirmation or sources available that it was the official emblem - however, the likelihood seems quite high.


Deutsch: Eine Wandmalerei aus dem Jahr 2008 in einer (laut dem Fotografen damals verlassenen, siehe Diskussionsseite) Militärbasis im Irak nahe der Grenze zum Iran. Bei dem Gemälde handelt es sich wahrscheinlich um das Emblem der dort stationierten militärischen Grenzschutzeinheit. Der unterste Schriftzug (gebogen) bedeutet „6. Grenzbrigade“, der Schriftzug darüber in der Schriftrolle bedeutet „Die Grenzen des Iraq“. Die drei Worte oben unter dem irakischen Flaggensymbol bedeuten "Wachsamkeit (oder: Aufmerksamkeit), Selbstaufopferung, Standhaftigkeit", wahrscheinlich die Tugenden, die das militärische Motto der Einheit waren. Die Malerei stammt mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit aus der Zeit vor dem Einmarsch der USA in den Irak im Jahr 2003, da das Flaggensymbol oben die Flagge ist, die unter Saddam Hussein verwendet wurde.
