Description
English: An incomplete composite silver cap hook. The artefact has a circular face which has a flat reverse, and the outer face having a slight rim which suggests that another decorative component of the artefact was originally fixed here. Towards the edge there circular face has a circular perforation through which a hook is fixed. The hook is visible on the reverse and is a sub 'U' shape in plan, and circular in section. One terminal of the hook is bent outwards and is pushed through the circular perforation of the circular face, only a short portion protrudes on the outer face. The opposite terminal of the hook tapers to a sharp point.


The object appears to be an incomplete cap hook judging by the shape and form of the pin on the reverse and the dimensions. Similar silver, circular, composite cap hook are recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database, the best example being SF-9CCB15, where the view of the back of the object shows that it is made in several parts and that what we have in this object is just the back plate of which the front decorative element is now missing. These are dated to the 16th century.
