Deutsch: Am 20. November 1967 wurde der Grundstein für die Bodenstation Weilheim vom damaligen Bundesfinanzminister Franz Josef Strauß gelegt. "Dies war ein Symbol für den Eintritt der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in das Zeitalter der Weltraumfahrt und -forschung", kommentiert Prof. Dr. Pascale Ehrenfreund, Vorstandsvorsitzende des DLR. "Der Standort Weilheim ist für das DLR eine wesentliche Kommunikationsverbindung zwischen Erde und Weltraum. Damit ist sie von besonderer Bedeutung für die nationale und internationale Raumfahrt".
