Description

46 avenue Foch à Metz

Les immeubles de l'avenue Foch à Metz ont été construits durant la période d'occupation allemande à partir de 1903 à l'emplacement des fossés et remparts qui ont été détruits.

Ce quartier incluant la gare (de style néo-médiéval) était devenu au début du 20ème siècle une vitrine architecturale de l'Allemagne impériale.

Les immeubles de rapport et les hôtels ont été conçus dans des styles divers : néo-médiéval, néo-renaissance flamande, néo-baroque, éclectique ou jugendstil (art nouveau des pays germaniques, scandinaves ou austro-hongrois).

Si à Nancy, il persiste de nombreuses créations architecturales dans le style art nouveau français, à Metz, elles sont très rares au profit d'immeubles jugendstil surtout présents dans ce quartier proche du centre Pompidou Metz.
