English: Persian Gulf (Dec. 7, 2005) - An F-14D Tomcat, assigned to the "Tomcatters" of Fighter Squadron 31(VF-31), launches from the flight deck of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). VF-31 is slated to be the last remaining F-14 Tomcat squadron to operate from an aircraft carrier at sea and the last of the Tomcats to transition to the newer F/A-18 Super Hornet strike fighter aircraft. Roosevelt and embarked Carrier Air Wing Eight (CVW-8) are currently underway on a regularly scheduled deployment conducting maritime security operations.
