English: Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (Oct. 11, 2002) -- Mexican Navy Capt. Salvado Miranda Orendain, Executive Officer aboard Mexican sailing ship “Cuauhtemoc,” documents the condition of the decommissioned amphibious tank landing ship (LST) Frederick during a tour with Cmdr. Brian T. Smith, the ship’s last commanding officer. Orendain assisted Mexican Naval Attaché, Rear Adm. Juan Morales, on behalf of the Mexican Navy, who plan to purchase the ship. The U.S. Navy recently decommissioned the ship, the sixth of 20 such Newport-class tank landing ships, after 33 years of distinguished naval service during a ceremony held aboard Naval Station Pearl Harbor.
