English: At sea aboard USS Tarawa (LHA 1) -- A CH-46 "Sea Knight" helicopter hovers over the amphibious assault ship's flight deck, creating a down-wash of air measured by anemometers below (lower left center). The equipment was set up by a team of scientists who are aboard USS Tarawa to conduct tests and gather information designed to improve the safety of the V-22 “Osprey” aircraft, a next-generation aircraft under development for future deployment on amphibious ships. |
