Description

Warships of the U.S. Navy's Sixth Fleet anchored off the city of Istanbul, Turkey, during a good will visit, 2 March 1950. Note the U.S. Navy personnel on the landing in left center, with United States and Turkish flags flying nearby. Ships present are (from left to right): the destroyer USS Glennon (DD-840); USS Charles R. Ware (DD-865); the heavy cruiser USS Newport News (CA-148); USS Everett F. Larson (DDR-830); and the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CVB-41). Midway, with assigned Carrier Air Group 4 (CVG-4), was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea from 6 January to 23 May 1950.
