Description

Aerial port side view of the U.S. Navy destroyer minelayer USS Shea (DM-30) at speed on 18 October 1944.

Original caption: "Converted from a conventional destroyer while building, the Shea has gained her minelaying capability at the expense of her torpedo tubes, 20 mm Oerlikon AA guns on the stern and some anti submarine capability. Note the mines lined up on the mine rails which extend from the forward superstructure to the stern. The ship retains her normal destroyer main armament and the standard destroyer radar outfit of SC-2 air search radar at the masthead, SG surface search radar just below it and a Mark 12/Mark 22 fire control/height finding radar combination on the Mark 37 director."
