Description USS Monitor (LSV-5) was recomissioned as a Osage-class vehicle landing ship on 14 June 1944. Originally she was constructed as a net layer (AN-1), then a troop transport (AP-160), but never fully commissioned. She was active in the Pacific theater and decomissioned in 1947. While in "mothballs" she was redesignated as a mine coutermeasure ship (MCS-5), but never commissioned until being struck in 1961.
