Description The U.S. Navy icebreaker USS Glacier (AGB-4) in Antarctica, circa 1960. Glacier succeeded in making the deepest penetration south in the Bellinghausen Sea ever made by a ship: 71.53° S 95.44.2° W. A small party was landed on Turston Peninsula, the first time that man had ever set foot on this previously unknown part of Antarctica.
