Description U.S. Navy North American RA-5C Vigilante aircraft from Heavy Reconnaissance Squadron RVAH-6 Fleurs on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVAN-65) in December 1968. Also visible are two McDonnell F-4J-35-MC Phantom II fighters each from Fighter Squadron VF-92 Silver Kings (BuNo 155794, 155804), and VF-96 Fighting Falcons. The Big E and assigned Attack Carrier Air Wing 9 (CVW-9) were working up for a planned deployment to Vietnam from 6 January to 2 July 1969. However, the carrier had to enter a shipyard until March 1969 after a devastating fire off Hawaii on 14 January 1969. Losses totalled 28 dead, 343 wounded, and 15 aircraft destroyed.
