English: Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Christopher Tunal, assigned to amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), folds t-shirts for civilians getting underway with the ship for a tiger cruise from San Francisco back to the ship’s homeport of San Diego. Tiger cruises allow crew members an opportunity to bring family and friends on board for a short underway period. The program is designed to strengthen family ties and increase awareness and appreciation for the Navy and its mission through personal interaction and experience. America was recently commissioned during San Francisco Fleet Week 2014 and is the first ship of its class and the fourth to bear the name. She replaces the Tarawa-class of amphibious assault ship as the next generation “big-deck” amphibious assault ship and is optimized for aviation and capable of supporting current and future aircraft such as the MV-22 Osprey and F-35B Joint Strike Fighter.
