Description
English: Sgt. Maj. Ramona D. Cook, former sergeant major of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, accepts the nation's flag flown above Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton from Brig. Gen. Vincent A. Coglianese, commanding general Marine Corps Installations West - MCB Camp Pendleton, at Camp Pendleton's Pacific Views Event Center during her retirement ceremony, July 26. From 1982 to 2012 Cook served as a stellar Marine and toured to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom and to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. For about 30 years Cook not only served as outstanding Marine, but also as a devoted mother of two. Cook has more than impacted the many Marines of Camp Pendleton while serving as the base sergeant major. She has left a large print on the country and Corps. In May of 2005, Cook was recognized by the congressional Caucus for Women as the outstanding female Marine staff noncommissioned officer of the year for excellent service between May 2004 and May 2005. Cook will retire after 30 years of honorable service in the United States Marine Corps, September 2012.
