Description
English: Donna Ouellette said she’s an incredibly proud mother and honored the life of her son, Cpl. Michael W. Ouellette, when she was presented the Navy Cross on his behalf in a ceremony Nov. 10, 2010. Ouellette was killed after an improvised explosive device detonated underneath him while he was patrolling in Helmand province, Afghanistan, March 22, 2009. After the explosion, Ouellette continued to lead his squad by directing fire from his riflemen and calling in the ambush over the radio. Sgt. Randy Moffett, a friend and fellow Marine of Ouellette, received the radio transmission and described Ouellette’s actions as selfless and heroic. Ouellette succumbed to his wounds as he was evacuated from t the area, shortly after the radio transmission.
