English: Lt Col. Stephen M. Neary, 40, from Boston Mass., and Col. Khalid, commander of the 2nd Battalion, 1st Brigade, 7th Iraqi Division, together cut a cake depicting the Iraqi flag, signifying the official turn over Forward Operating Base Snake Pit in Ar Ramadi July 31. Marines from 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment handed over control of FOB Snake Pit and surrounding battlespace to the Iraqi Army during a Transfer of Authority ceremony. 3/8 is currently deployed with I MEF (FWD) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in the Al Anbar province of Iraq (MNF-W) to develop the Iraqi Security Forces, facilitate the development of official rule of law through demographic government reforms, and continue the development of a market based economy centered on Iraqi reconstruction.
