Based at Naval Suport Facility Indian Head Maryland, CBIRF is a unit comprised of Marines and sailors specially trained to counter the effects of a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high-yeild explosive (CBRNE) incident. Usually, that intails being available to assist local, state and federal agencies with domestic emergency responses to CBRNE incidents. This is CBIRF's first overseas deployment since it was stood up in 1996 in response to the sarin attack on Tokyo subway in 1995. (Released) |
