March is Women’s History month, and we want to highlight some of the amazing women here at U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on our social media sites. Name: Laura Todd Title: Field Supervisor Duty station: Newport Field Office, Newport, Oregon Where did you go to school? Portland State University What did you study? Biology How did you get interested in conservation? My dad was a teacher, and my family spent our summers in National Forests and Parks camping in the U.S. and Canada. The campfire talks and naturalist hikes in the woods inspired an inclination toward conservation. I ran wild, caught frogs, fished, skipped rocks, and solidified my eternal love of wildlife and nature. What’s your favorite species and why? Pacific giant salamander, because it’s a true northwesterner that lives in cold, forested lakes and streams. It can grow to over a foot from nose to tail. It can live equally well on land or water. It has big puppy-dog brown eyes, metallic colors, and a Kermit the Frog smile when on land. And they eat slugs (and lots of other stuff)! |
