Description

TECHNICAL ADVANCEMENT “This control center is enabling Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) to monitor the electrical power flow throughout the region by interpreting and displaying data from over 1,000 meters installed throughout each of the company’s 79 grid stations. This system provides accurate information to both IESCO and the National Power Control Center so that they can compare actual loads against established targets in real-time. The United States and Pakistan are working together to help Pakistan meet growing energy demands and implement the necessary reforms to improve efficiency of the energy sector to accelerate economic growth. These efforts also include improving the electricity distribution grid. ” USAID Acting Mission Director Nancy Estes

(Pictured Above) U.S. Improves IESCO’s ability to Reduce Unscheduled Load Shedding: Marking a milestone in the United States’ support of Pakistan’s energy sector, Nancy Estes, USAID Acting Mission Director, and Yousaf Awan, IESCO’s Chief Executive Officer inaugurated the company’s new Power Distribution Control Center (PDCC). The PDCC is part of the National Power Control Center (NPCC) which received similar assistance to address the energy shortages on a national level. Through the installation of 9,000 smart meters in 741 grid stations at all government-owned DISCOs, USAID is assisting both DISCOs and the NPCC in managing the flow of electricity and significantly reducing unscheduled load shedding.
