English: The MODIS instrument aboard NASA's Terra satellite captured this true-color image of Super Typhoon Chapa on August 24, 2005 at 1:30 UTC. At the time this image was taken, Chapa was located approximately 824 km (512 miles) south of Iwo Jima and was moving towards the west-northwest at 20 km/hr (13 mph). Maximum sustained were near 259 km/hr (161 mph) with higher gusts 287 km/hr (178 mph). Chaba is expected to make landfall in southwestern Japan sometime on Friday.
