Title
Two views of fragment medieval buckle spacer.
Description
English: The object is a probable fragment of a forked spacer from a composite buckle of medieval date, or 13th century to 15th century. The object is cast copper alloy.

The object represents the portion of a buckle (not recent breaks) where the frame and forked spacer meet, see for example fig. 47 (Egan, G and Pritchard, F. 1991 Medieval Finds From Excavations in London: 3. Dress Accessories c.1150 – c.1450, HMSO, London), unlike the illustrated example however, the recorded object is missing the pin as well as most of the buckle frame and the spacers. As an example Egan illustrates a number of oval framed spacers from composite buckles, (see figs. 48 and 49, nos. 322, 324 – 326 and 329 - 330) which the recorded object may have parallels with. A slight curve in what is left of the buckle frame suggests that the buckle was most likely oval in shape. The recorded object however is so fragmentary that it is impossible to say for certain. The object is grey brown in colour with evidence of a dark brown patina on both the front and the reverse of the buckle frame, as well as on the remains of the forked spacer.

The measurement of the object is 17.9mm at its longest point, 11.5mm at its widest point and 2.7mm at its thickest point. Weight of the object is 1.28g.
