Title
Two views of a probable post medieval furniture fitting
Description
English: The object is a probable stud/nail/mount which Margeson (Margeson, S. 1993 Norwich Households: Medieval and Post Medieval Finds from Norwich Survey, Excavations 1971-78. East Anglian Archaeology 58) attributes to the post-medieval or 16th century to 17th century. As an example Margeson, fig. 526 illustrates a copper alloy stud, which she suggests was probably used for furniture, but may also have been used for horse-harnesses. The object is cast copper alloy.

In plan the object is sub-circular and plain. In section the object is domed, with a hollow reverse. In the centre of the reverse the object has an integral shank which is rectangular in section, of which only part now remains. The object has a small patch of green patina on the dome exterior, while the majority of the object is abraded, with evidence of red copper corrosion. There is slight evidence of active copper corrosion on the reverse, in the hollow.

The measurement of the object is 14.6mm in diameter and 5.6mm at its thickest point (from the top of the dome to the base of the shank). The shank is approximately 2mm long. Weight of the object is 1.4g.
