Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Between 1900 and the 1950s, Sydney photographer Sam Hood took hundreds of photographs of ships and their crew for souvenirs of their visit or to send home to families. This photograph depicts two men posed with a dog and a kitten. Such animals were often expected to earn their keep catching mice and rats, but they undoubtedly also provided an outlet for affection.

This photo is part of the Australian National Maritime Museum’s Samuel J. Hood Studio collection. Sam Hood (1872-1953) was a Sydney photographer with a passion for ships.
