Summary
[edit]DescriptionTurvey Mill on the River Great Ouse - geograph.org.uk - 395958.jpg |
English: Turvey Mill on the River Great Ouse In 1885 John Battams who was a third generation miller of the famous Whitworth family built a new mill here at Turvey alongside an earlier stone driven water mill. The mill burned down a few years later but was replaced. The competitive success of the mill convinced him to set up another new mill at the well-known landmark site of Whitworths on the River Nene at Wellingborough. The mill here at Turvey was working as late as 1947. Also visible in this photo is the statue of Jonah - see other views in this square. |
