English: Forest of Stupas. 4th century AD. Jiaohe ruins, Xinjiang
West of the large vihara, is a rather amazing collection of 105 stupas. The central group of five stupas, seen here, was surrounded by four other groups of 25 stupas each. Only the bases of the stupas in the surrounding groups exist today. The five groups themselves, and the five in the central group, are arranged in quincunx. |
