Description
Nederlands: Oorlogsmonument ter ere van 130 gesneuvelde soldaten uit de Eerste Wereldoorlog (later aangevuld met 17 slachtoffers van de achttiendaagse veldtocht) te Turnhout. Het werd opgericht in 1922 op de toenmalige Botermarkt, dat sindsdien het Zegeplein heet. Het monument werd gebouwd door bouwmeester Emiel Van Averbeke en gebeeldhouwd door Floris De Cuyper die allebei afkomstig waren uit Antwerpen. Bovenop het kunstwerk staat het beeld van de Madelon.
English: War memorial in honour of 130 killed soldiers of Turnhout in the First World War (later were added 17 victims of the Second World War). It was erected in 1922, built by Emiel van Averbekle and cast by Floris de Cuyper. On top of the monument is the image of the Madelon
