Summary
[edit]DescriptionTurnaware Point, concrete matting. - geograph.org.uk - 808806.jpg |
English: Turnaware Point, concrete matting. A relic of the WWll Embarkation Beach, this steel-reinforced, flexible concrete matting, also known as "biscuit", was manufactured in huge quantities to make shingle and sand beaches suitable for carrying the weight of tanks.
Some remains in situ but much was "mined" by local farmers, after the war was over, and incorporated into roads and walls. The larger blocks come from the "Dolphin" jetties. |
