Summary
[edit]DescriptionTurbine pump, Sutton Poyntz - geograph.org.uk - 1424225.jpg |
English: Turbine pump, Sutton Poyntz This operational site is also used by Wessex Water as the company museum and is open by appointment only. The best exhibit is this original pump of 1857 by D Cook of Glasgow. A Whitelaw turbine (a reaction device very like Hero's aeolopile) drives a pair of reciprocating pumps via bevel gearing. This is a unique survivor and should be seen by every student of historic pumping machinery. |
