Summary
[edit]| Description |
English: Old Tamerza was abandoned following the great flood of 1969, when it rained for 22 days. The village was too exposed to the river valley (dry almost all the year), many of the mud brick houses fell in when exposed to that much water. Religious sites are white and looked after.
The white buildings have been painted and repaired on the outside as they have religious importance to the people. An interesting site in Tamerza is the pointed dome of the prayer hall (bottom right) belong to the Mausoleum of Sidi Dar ben Dhahara. The mihrab (niche indicating the direction of prayer) of this sanctuary is incorrectly placed and does not point to Mecca, a rear thing in Islamic art. The white building in the centre is a mosque. |
