English: Full Dress Tunic, (Fermanagh Light Infantry), circa 1880 Belonged to Charles Hugh Lushington, later of New Zealand. scarlet cloth tunic with navy blue collar and cuffs; stand-up collar; navy cuffs; waisted with eight buttons down front; white edging down front; skirt- unhemmed and closed behind with pleat either side edged with white cloth collar- silver lace at top and silver Russia braided eyes below; with collar badges shoulder- twisted round silver shoulder cords, universal patttern, lined with scarlet'; fastens with small VR button cuffs- pointed cuffs; two rows of Infantry design lace; tracing of silver Russian braid above and below lace, with Austrian knot at top, and crow's foot and eye at bottom badges- collar- embroidered bullion posthorn collar badges rank badges- two stars on shoulder straps either side (one pip missing on lhs) buttons- brass buttons with VR cypher with crown above; eight at front and two at waist behind lining- fully lined; body lined with mushroom coloured (silk) with quilting front and back; internal pocket on rhs; skirt lined with cream flannel; band of red morocco leather at waist with metal buckle

Full Dress Tunic, (Fermanagh Light Infantry), Ireland, circa 1880 Belonged to Charles Hugh Lushington, later of New Zealand. Provenance needs to be reviewed. The two stars on shoulder straps conform to CH Lushington's rank while serving in the Fermanagh Light Infantry, but, thesleeve details of this tunic suggest rank of Lt. Colonel. Charles Hugh Lushington (27.1.1862-1907). Son of Charles Hugh Lushington of Rodersham Lodge, Kent, England. Spent much of his childhood in India where his father was a judge with the East India Civil Service. Educated at Eton and Cheam. Charles arrived in New Zealand in 1882 and joined the Styak family at Greenmount East Tamaki as a farm cadet, and on 6 May 1884 married Sarah Jane Styak, and continued to live at Greenmount until 1886 when the family bought Rodersham, a lime cement house at Mahurangi Heads. It appears that Charles Lushington served briefly with the Fermanagh Light Infantry before coming to New Zealand. The Ulster Counties Directory, 1880 lists a Lieutenant CH Lushington as a member of this militia regiment, It is possible that he had joined an older sister who had married Francis John Graham of Drumgoon, County Fermanagh and Ballinakill Lodge, County Galway.
