Summary
[edit]DescriptionTulwar sword - 1700s - Cleveland Museum of Art (30215005466).jpg |
Tulwar sword of steel inlaid with gold, with an iron and gold hilt and a wood scabard with velvet and metallic thread. Part of the exhibit "Art and Stories of Mughal India" at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio. This sword is typical of those manufactured in the 1700s in Mughal India. The open hilt indicates it was made in the Deccan, a part of southern India. Inscribed on the blade is a verse from the Koran, sufa 61, verse 13: "Help [comes] from God, and victory is imminent." |
