Date: May 29, 2022. --- TAXONOMICAL INFORMATIONS Familia: Liliaceae Juss. Species: Tulipa pumila Moench First publication references: Sp. Pl.: 471 (1753). Synonyms: Tulipa australis Link; Tulipa bessarabica Zapal.; Tulipa biebersteiniana Schult. & Schult.; Tulipa breyniana Ker Gawl.; Tulipa browniana E.Vilm.; Tulipa brujniana Roxb.; Tulipa callieri Halácsy & Levier in Jahreskat.; Tulipa caucasica Orph. ex Nyman; Tulipa celsiana J.Henning; Tulipa celsiana Redouté; Tulipa paschalis Sennen; Tulipa patens C.Agardh; Tulipa quercetorum Klokov & Zoz; Tulipa riparia Knjaz., Kulikov & E.G.Philippov; Tulipa samarica Klokov & Zoz; Tulipa sareptana Klokov & Zoz; Tulipa scythica Klokov & Zoz; Tulipa sibirica Patrin ex Kunth; Tulipa sylvestris L. subsp. australis (Link) Pamp. --- MORPHOLOGY AND FENOLOGY Life-form: geophyte. Description (M.S. Campbell, 1980): perennial bulbose herb. bulb 15-40 x 6-20 mm, not stoloniferous; tunic tough, with a few straight hairs inside towards the apex, occasionally glabrous. Stem (5-)8-30(40) cm, not more than 2 mm in diameter. Leaves 2 (3), linear-lanceolate to linear, canaliculate, the lowest less than 1-2 cm wide. Flower 1 (exceptionally 2) nodding in bud; perianth yellow, outher perianth segments 20-35(-37) x 4,5-9 mm, tinged with pink or crimson outside, the inner 21-36(-38) x 6-16 mm. Filaments 5-8 mm; anthers 2-5-4 mm. Flowering: from April to July (depending on the elevation). --- ECOLOGY AND CHOROLOGY Habitat: mountain meadows and stony places Vegetation belts: supramediterranean, montane, subalpine, alpine. Edaphic preferences: Ca; Ser. Chorotype: Paleotemperate Orophyte Global distribution (POWO, 2022): native to Albania, Algeria, Altay, Belarus, Bulgaria, Central European Rus, East European Russia, France, Greece, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Krym, Libya, Morocco, North Caucasus, Portugal, Romania , South European Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Transcaucasus, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, West Siberia, Xinjiang, ex-Yugoslavia. Italian distribution (F. Bartolucci & alii, 2018): native to Aosta Valley, Piedmont, Lombardy, Trentino Alto Adige, Veneto, Liguria, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, Marches. Latium, Abruzzo, Apulia, Basilicata, Sicily, Sardinia (only historical records). Notes: Tulipa pumila Moench. it is an orophyte with a very wide paleotemperate range, which extends with some distributional gaps, from the mountains of northern Morocco to north-western China (Xinijang), through Transcaucasia and south-western Siberia, however it is generally considered an uncommon species. In Liguria it is present on the mountains of the western sector of the Province of Imperia (Monte Pietravecchia and Monte Ceriana), on the Ligurian Pre-Alps (Monte Galero), in the western Ligurian Apennines (from Monte Beigua to Monte Taccone) and in the eastern Ligurian Apennines (Aveto and Sturla river basins). The Ligurian stations of Tulipa pumila Moench are few in number even if they may consist of very many specimens. Regional protection: yes. --- REFERENCES
