Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Locomotive of the Tulip Blossom Special, the original park train of Wamego, Kansas photographed at the train's last operation at the community's Tulip Festival. The train's gauge is 12". It was built in 1947 by Ottaway Amusement Company of Wichita, Kansas. Previously operated in Salina, Kansas, this train was purchase in 1955 by Neil Balderson for $5,000.[1] Originally a fully functional oil-fired steam locomotive, it was converted to gasoline-hydraulic in the 1970s.[2] In 2009, the community raise funds and donated materials and labor to build a replacement train, a battery-electric model of a Union Pacific streamliner, and a permanent display shelter for the original train.[3]
