Description
English: The old lobby of the Hotel Congress which was built in 1919 and is located at 303-311 E. Congress St. On January 22, 1934, a fire started in the basement of the hotel and spread up the elevator to the third floor. This fire, and the subsequent chain of events, led to the capture of one of the country’s most notorious criminals John Dillinger. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, ref.: #03000906.
