C-Bracteate found in Trollhättan. Obverse.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: C-bracteate found in Trollhättan. Obverse side. The runic inscription (Vg IK639) reads: ekerilaz ' mariþeubazhaite ' wraitalaþo. Translated to English, this means: "I, the erilaz [a title of unknown significance] am called Mariþeubaz [sea-thief or famous thief] ' [I] wrote an invitation". The word laþo, here in the accusative and translated as "invitation", is often found standing alone on bracteates in the nominative form "laþu". Although its meaning is not exactly clear, it seems to be referring to the runic inscription itself. Publication: Morten Axboe & Magnus Källström, Fv2013;159
