BEACON PARK, NEAR WEBSTER, MASS. Putnam (Putnam Inn) has a Court House, and two w 11-known Catholic institutions : St. Marys Convent and Notre DameAcademy.. Nearby are the noted Cargill Falls. The Quinebaugand Mill Rivers unite to produce good water power. Putnam is a stopping-place of the through trains to Boston,and the journeyer from along the line may easily connect withthe trains by the convenient trolley. At Mechanicsville we bid goodbye to the Quninebaug Val-ley and, turning up French River, run along the west bankto Grosvenordale. This town makes cotton and woolen goods. Next over the state line to Webster. The most interesting ex-cursion here is to Beacon Park on Lake Chaubunagungamaug(alias Lake Chargoggagogmanchoggagogg)!. The lake is asqueerly shaped as named, with many bays, and long jaggedpoints thrusting into it. Several small steamships ply on it insummer. From Webster.
