He was not knocked sense-less, but vomited slightly shortty af-terwards. The effort on his partand that of the servant was to sup-press the fact for fear of worryingthe mother. With the mental and general obtundity and a continued eleva-ted temperature, though not high, and the facial expression before us, therecould be no question-. A prompt and thorough purgation was advised by means of calomel,shaving of the head was ordered and the application of a fly blister over theposterior and superior part of the scalp. We then decided upon the admin-istration of an opiate, accompanied with ergot to secure complete rest andas thorough contraction of the vessels carrying blood to the brain as couldbe. The child was wonderfully relieved within the next twenty-four hours;the temperature was lessened by a degree, it having been 101 c immediatelyprior to the treatment applied. Twelve hours of pronounced sleep and free-dom from pain was secured and an uninterrup
