| Description |
English: Koblenz–Trier railway west of the village of Pommern below the Galgenberg Mountain at the Mosel river, Germany, looking east. At this place a siding was built for loading and unloading material for the construction of the so called Treiser Tunnel (1918-1923). The tunnel was part of a planned and partially built, but never completed strategic railway. After construction was completed, the siding track, beeing in better shape as the old through track, was kept as the new through track. Thus still nowadays, the through tracks at this location, for a distance of some hundred meters, are further apart than usually.
Deutsch: Moselstrecke am Galgenberg westlich von Pommern, Blick nach Osten. Hier bestand eine Ladestelle, für den Bau des auf dem gegenüberliegenden Moselufer liegenden Treiser Tunnels (1918-1923). Dieser war Teil einer geplanten und teilweise fertiggestellten, aber nicht in Betrieb gegangenen strategischen Eisenbahnstrecke war. Nach Beendigung der Arbeiten wurde eines der Streckengleise abgebaut und stattdessen das bisherige Ladegleis als neues Streckengleis beibehalten, weil dieses in einem besseren Zustand war. Daher liegen beide Gleise auf einer Strecke von mehreren hundert Metern noch heute ungewöhnlich weit auseinander. |
