Title
Treasure case 2008 T408, gold ornamental ring from Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds
Description
English: Gold ornamental ring from Kirkstall Abbey, Leeds This gold ring, found apparently in 1887, is formed of a central cross within a lobed frame. The back of the bezel is flat. In the absence of any comparable pieces in the British Museum collections it has not proved possible to identify the age and origins of this ring. In these circumstances, there is not enough evidence to show that it is more than 300 years old. As this find was discovered pre-1997 we must evaluate it under Treasure Trove laws rather than the Treasure Act 1996. Under Treasure Trove, evidence would have to point to the object having been deliberately hidden with the intention of recovery. The finger-ring is most likely to be an accidental loss, and therefore does not constitute treasure.
