Title |
trapezium-shaped knee buckle |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy, double-looped, trapezium-shaped, shoe- or knee-buckle frame with drilled holes for a separate central spindle. The frame has rounded ends with flattened knops with moulded oblique grooves on the outer edge of each loop. The frame has concave sides and moulded transverse ridges around the spindle holes. The frame has a flat base and a convex profile in cross-section. The frame is missing its spindle, which would have held a copper alloy tongue and chape, but the spindle appears to have been made of iron as there are iron corrosion products around the drilled holes. The frame is 20.7 mm long and 16.1 mm wide and 3.6 mm in thickness.Read (1988) illustrates another two examples on page 145, Nos. 947 & 951, which are dated from c.1660-1720 |
