Italiano: Quando la luce emessa da una stella viene raccolta dai nostri satelliti, viene prodotta una curva di luce (la linea bianca nel box nero). Quando un oggetto celeste, come ad esempio un pianeta, si frappone tra noi e la stella, la curva di luce perde di intensità per tutto il periodo del passaggio del pianeta di fronte alla stella. In questo modo, verificando il passaggio periodico di un oggetto di fronte a una stella, è possibile scoprire pianeti extrasolari.
English: When the light emitted by a star is collected by our satellites, a light curve is produced (the white line in the black box). When a celestial object, such as a planet, stands between us and the star, the light curve loses its intensity throughout the period of the planet's passage in front of the star. In this way, by checking the periodic passage of an object in front of a star, it is possible to discover extrasolar planets. |
